Vibration analysis

VIBRATION ANALYSIS
The vibrations generated by a rotating machines correspond to the dynamic efforts generated by moving parts. Analysis of the vibration pattern makes it possible to assess the operating conditions of the machine and detect defects at an early stage.
- A misaligned or unbalanced drive shaft
- The condition of bearings and gearings
- Tightening defects, excessive clearances
- The condition of fan or pump blades

Torsional vibrations

TORSIONAL VIBRATION
Torsional vibration is an oscillatory angular motion causing twisting in the shaft of a system.
It is generated by pistons alternative forces on crankshaft.
Even though the vibration cannot be detected without special measuring equipment, its amplitude can be destructive.
Small variations of torque measurement is performed with special device fixed on shaft.

TORQUE AND POWER MEASUREMENT ON ROTATING SHAFTS

- Mechanical data ( diameter, Young modulus of material )

Shaft geometry

RUN OUT CONTROL

The eccentricity or run out control has to check shaft or rotor straightness.
An excessive eccentricity may generate vibrations and cause unfair wear.

The control is carried out on site (under the ship for example).

All diameters are measured same time even conical shaft ends.

Shaft is supported by other diameter than the journal to avoid overhang stress.

High accurancy calculated results assessments modeling the eccentricity (magnitude and angle).

PROPELLER SHAFT JACK UP TEST
Jack up test is an easy way to measure the bearing load.
A dial gauge and sufficient hydraulic jacks are sufficient.
